RCARS - Robeson County Amateur Radio Society

Statement of Purpose

The Robeson County Amateur Radio Society, Inc., has been formed to be a non-profit, publicly funded corporation dedicated to the safety and welfare of the citizens, municipalities, and public service agencies of Robeson County in times of emergency, disaster or other communications breakdown or overload.

To do this, the corporation will provide amateur radio communications systems to FCC-licensed members of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES); will provide training and drills for these operators in the use of the equipment; and will encourage and develop close cooperation between the Office of Emergency Management, the American Red Cross and other public health and safety organizations of the county on the one hand and the Robeson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service on the other.

Who is RCARS?

The Robeson County Amateur Radio Society, Inc. is the only publicly supported corporation in the county with tax exempt status granted by the Internal Revenue Service under section 501(c) 3 dedicated solely to the support of amateur radio emergency communication. The Society is incorporated under the laws of the State of North Carolina and is governed by a Board of Directors. No officer or board member receives any salary from the corporation.

RCARS membership is drawn exclusively from the active membership of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and consists of well trained operators, many of whom have already proven their ability in the face of emergencies and disasters. These men and women are constantly improving their knowledge and abilities through training exercises and simulated emergency tests.
